Pet Handlers Protection Insurance provides liability insurances specifically for pet businesses across the UK.

Insurances In Summary

Care Custody and Control

This section covers your legal liability for accidental loss of or injury to animals that are in your care, custody or control, up to limits of £5,000 any one animal and £10,000 in any one period of insurance.

Not insured;

your own animals
breach of professional duty
medical or surgical treatment (other than the insertion of a microchip or similar identity device)
any pre-existing physical or medical defect, disability or condition
the first £75 of each claim.

Employers Liability

This section protects you as required by the law relating to the compulsory insurance of legal liability to employees whilst they are employed in Great Britain, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands.

The limit of indemnity is £10,000,000 (£5,000,000 if liability arises out of terrorism) any one cause inclusive of all legal costs.

The cover is extended to include legal costs incurred in the defence of criminal proceedings brought for a breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, up to a limit of £10,000 in any one period of insurance.

If we require you or any of your directors, partners or employees to attend court as a witness in connection with any claim under this section we will provide compensation of up to £250 for each day of attendance.

Material Damage/Equipment Insurance

This section covers your portable tools, utensils and equipment against loss or damage occurring anywhere in Great Britain, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands caused by fire, lightning, explosion, aircraft, theft, riot or civil commotion, malicious damage, earthquake, impact, storm, flood, escape of water or oil or falling trees or branches.

The sum insured you select should represent the full replacement value of the property. There is a limit of £1,000 any one article and a limit of £10,000 in total.

Not insured;

theft from any unattended vehicle
subsidence, heave or landslip
damage by storm, flood or escape of water or oil to property in a basement or outbuilding unless it is stored 100mm clear of the floor
terrorism
the first £100 of each claim.

Professional Indemnity

This section covers your legal liability to pay damages for breach of professional duty by reason of negligence, error or omission in connection with your business, up to a limit of £100,000 in any one period of insurance inclusive of all legal costs.

The cover can be extended to include liability incurred by any of your employees.

The cover includes compensation for court attendance as a witness, up to £250 per day.

Not insured;

libel or slander
circumstances known about prior to the commencement of the insurance
diagnosis or medical or surgical treatment given, performed or administered
wilful, dishonest or fraudulent acts
the first £200 of each claim.

Public Liability

This section covers your legal liability for injury to persons other than employees, and for damage to property, up to a limit of £2,000,000 plus legal costs.

The cover includes;

compensation for court attendance as a witness, up to £250 per day
your legal liability arising out of the use of another person’s vehicle for your business purposes if it is not otherwise insured
legal costs incurred in the defence of criminal proceedings for breach of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, up to £10,000 in any one period of insurance
liability for damage to premises leased, hired, rented or in your custody or control (excluding the first £250).

Not insured;

liability for loss of or injury to animals in your care, custody or control
liability arising out of any products sold or supplied
breach of professional duty
liability arising out of asbestos or its derivatives
terrorism
the first £100 of each claim for damage to property.
